About the Artist
Paintings by artist J.A. Pollard are owned by such people and institutions as Dr. Nancy Maynard, NASA Senior research Scientist, Goddard Space Fight Center; J. Reynolds Company, Durham, North Carolina; the Bermuda Biological Station for Research, St. George''s West, Bermuda; Emery and Garrett Groundwater, Inc., of Maine and New Hampshire; and others. J.A. works with acrylics on a "ground" of gesso-coated, quarter-inch masonite, often sculpted with raised gesso, a technique based on ancient particulars but developed by herself. Although she''s also an illustrator, having done catalogue cover paintings for once-internationally-known clothing store, Dunham''s of Maine; pen and ink illustrations for her popular cookbook, The New Maine Cooking; for her child''s fairy tale, The Ice Ladder; for articles in The Maine Times and The Central Maine Newspapers; for a collection of her poetry published by the magazine Pozitzia #5 in the (then) U.S.S.R.; for aher memorial poem to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., published by Eastern Illinois University''s literary magazine, Karamu; and for her short stories, which have appeared in many magazines and anthologies. Her acrylic paintings appear in three series; The Gaia Series, Au Naturelle, and The Reef Series.
