About the Artist
The Schoodic International Symposium is a biennial cultural event that brings together artists, visitors, and communities to create a Public Sculpture Collection in eastern Maine. This gathering of sculptors is a fun and educational way to see how large-scale sculpture is made from granite, one of Maine's natural resources. Each symposium will last six weeks, from late July to early September. Visitors can watch international artists make the sculptures. The sculptures are then placed at public sites in Maine communities. The symposia are FREE and open to the public. These events are scheduled to occur in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
Our mission is to hold biennial, international stone sculpture symposia in Downeast Maine that will engage individuals and communities in public art and result in a large public art collection in Eastern Maine.
