About the Artist

My "Sewn Mosaics" transcends traditional art quilts. I am developing a new art form that enhances and redefines fiber art as fine art. As a self-trained artist, visual images impress upon me from many sources. I may be immersed in a piece of music or literature or embracing a memory from childhood; I might be hiking or doing physical work when an impression of that visual experience begins to take on a very personal form. A collage is always percolating. "Sewn Mosaics" are a fine art form I create to represent these visuals in a physical way. I choose and assemble fabrics that manifest for me that image: texture, color, and surface design are factors in fabric selection. Then I deconstruct these into tiny segments as if they were mosaic pieces. I assemble a collage image that is sewn meticulously into the final work. The work is stretched and framed & ready for exhibit. The viewer is left with an impression of my visual interior, which invites discussion and private thought.
