About the Artist

I was raised in Maine and have spent most of my adulthood here, and the landscape of Maine resonates deeply in my work. I am especially interested in the persistence of memory, both in the human psyche where a scent, a song, a slant of light, can send one traveling back to a moment in the past--and in the natural environment where beneath the changing fabric of growth and decay layer after layer of the past remains. The deeper one digs beneath the surface, the farther one goes into the past. My work is sometimes a palimpsest of images. Sometimes the earliest remamain visible beneath the later ones, sometimes not, but they always exert their influence. Over the years that I have been working as an artist I have explored painting, drawing and printmaking. Currently I am working on a series of three dimensional multimedia pieces incorporating words as well as images.
