About the Artist
Born and raised in Chicago, my formative years were spent studing painting at the Chicago Art Institute. The intervening years found me designing fabrics and wall coverings for a living. Moving to Maine in 1978 brought a change in life style, a renewal. Designing and weaving tapestries became a new means of personal expression.
The tapestries pertain to the quiet, often dramatic, symmetry of reflections and mirrored images, the abstract distillation of land and seascape. Extraneous texture and pattern are usually eliminated to reveal the beauty of color, the harmony of proposition.
Woven on a vertical tapestry loom, the weft is beaten down by hand, using a wooden fork. When removed from the loom, the total piece, each pick, is fully known. The simple strength of the ancient art form is to be experienced for its own aesthetic visual power.
