About the Artist
painter / printmaker / mixed media artist / poet / writer
I cannot remember a time when I have not made things : drawings, paintings, poems, prints, installations, textiles, books, marks, masks, performances, vessels, interactive community happenings, collaborations, sculptures, collages and mixed media.
Art for me is an interpretation of experience. As such it must look both inwardly and outwardly, for perceived reality is a dialogue between our accumulated inner being and the continuously impinging external world. I see my visual work primarily as visual poems about states of perception and feeling. My work is inspired by life and its experiences: a powerful dream, long winters, social and political issues, aging and health issues, visiting sacred places, family, meditation, searches, explorations, losses, beginnings...
I also have a strong commitment as an artist to teach, to be involved in the community, and to promote and expand others' awareness of and appreciation for the arts.
