About the Artist

LISA MOSSEL has been making images for over 25 years, and for the last 10 years focusing in on the world of macro photography. She has been represented by Griffin Museum, North Light Gallery, Maine Art Gallery, Archipelago, and her images have been on exhibit at numerous galleries throughout New England. Publications include the Island Journal, Down East Magazine, Hooked on the Outdoors, Time Out New York, and more.

I picked up a camera in 1998 with the intention of making large landscape images full of drama and space with grand, far-off vistas. But what my images came to reveal is the power and intimacy of smaller landscapes, like that of a flower. Flowers are my favorite subject as they feel like a bridge between the form and the formless. Macro photography pulls us into small worlds around us where color is exuberant and we need to slow down to truly see our surroundings. I intentionally use a very shallow plane of focus, `depth of field', so that my images feel more dreamy. Sometimes, there isn't a bit in focus.

Mossel teaches 1-3 day workshops on Macro photography throughout New England. To see more images and for more information, visit LisaMosselVietze.com.
