About the Artist
My recent paintings employ wood panels prepared with fabric and traditional gesso, multiple washes of dry pigments, casein paints, and sometimes metal leaf and oil paint. They incorporate my long fascination with Eastern Orthodox icons and my leanings towards patterns and abstraction. Rather than telling a story, I am seeking to create an object that can be contemplated for its suggestions of universal themes as well as its formal visual relationships
I hold a B.A. in Fine Arts and the Humanities from the University of Chicago. My work has been represented by galleries in Maine, Boston, and Chicago, and is included in public, corporate and private collections across the US and abroad. I've also taught adult drawing and painting through MECAD's and USM's continuing education programs as well as privately at my Portland studio.
