About the Artist
Jennifer Blake was born in California and moved to Mount Desert Island, Maine when she was a young. She started to create art in the high school with art classes. Her interest in painting grew when she started to take art classes in her sophomore year of college. In 1987, Jennifer Blake graduated with a B.F.A. in Painting from the Hartford Art School, Hartford, Connecticut. After college, Jennifer took some classes in Graphic Design at the University of Maine.
With a background in art and graphic design, Jennifer Blake used her skills as a contract artist in the multimedia industry. She created background art and text at two children’s software companies named KnowWare and The Learning Company. After completing some contract work, Jennifer decided to return to Maine to pursue her love of painting. While creating paintings, she joined an agency called VSA Arts of Maine that helps people with disabilities sell their artwork. Jennifer Blake had an art show with VSA Arts of Maine during the year of 2009 and 2010. She has also shown her work at Parker Ridge. Jennifer Blake now works on her paintings at Parker Ridge in Blue Hill, Maine.
Her mission is to find challenging subject matter to paint. Using colors and textures to describe the richness of landscapes and seascapes, Jennifer hopes to expand on making her artwork vibrant and draw in the viewer to nature's beauty.
