About the Artist
The Bowdoin Chorus, founded in 1992, is a 60-voice community choral group made up of Bowdoin students, faculty and staff and Brunswick area choristers from high school age to adults. Repertoire focus is on large-scale works for chorus and orchestra from the Baroque to the 21st century. The Chorus rehearses at Bowdoin College and occasionally performs with other campus ensembles such as the Bowdoin Chamber Orchestra and Bowdoin Chamber Choir. Two concerts per season are held on the Bowdoin campus and concert tours are organized to various parts of the USA and abroad. Membership is by audition. Sight reading ability is desirable but not required.
The Chorus collaborates with Down East Singers when touring to form The Rachmaninoff Chorus. This ensemble has performed in many Maine venues as well as in Boston, New Haven, St. Patrick''s Cathedral in New York City, Montreal, Baltimore, The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and Middlebury, Vermont. The ensemble toured European Russia and Siberia in 2002. In July 2009 the group will tour Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.
