Frank J Woods Bridge: Call for Art
- June 16, 2025
Brunswick Public Art (BPA) has issued a Call for Art to gather conceptual visions for one or more large-scale permanent sculptures incorporating steel from the Frank J Woods (FJW) Bridge that currently connects Brunswick and Topsham. The 1932 steel bridge is scheduled for removal in early 2026 and the general contractor for the project has committed to provide steel from the FJW Bridge for use in this project. The new sculpture/s will be installed at one or more locations near the entrance to the new bridge.
This gathering of visions is the first stage of the project development process -- in the next stage, BPA will select several concepts based on the material submitted to be further developed through paid stipends. A final project for installation will be selected from this smaller group of sculpture proposals. The target installation date and budget will be determined through the design process.
Submissions are due July 15, 2025.
Additional information, including a detailed project overview, history of the bridge, planned amenities adjacent to the new bridge, and information about nearby Shad Island, can be found on the BPA website:
