BAAM at The Gem Presents Dreaming Water, A Flow-Motion story in art, dance, video, and music on Saturday, October 5th at 7:00 pm. Social in the lobby starts at 6:00 pm. 

Dreaming Water is a multi-media presentation and performance about the importance of Water to life on Earth. Narrated by Julia Butterfly Hill as the Voice of Water, it will feature art and photography by Peter Herley, with videos and music by Conni St.Pierre and A-420. Dance choreographed by Amanda Duquette and Debi Irons. Drumming using a water drum created by Rusty Wiltjer. The dancers’ costumes will be created by Nikki Millonzi, with local students participating in the fabric dying. The performance will be emceed by Cyril the Sorcerer, who performs environmental magic.

Dreaming Water will be presented in live and pre-recorded formats with live music, and video backgrounds, utilizing both the 27’ x 12’ stage, and the full-size movie theater screen and sound system for an immersive audience experience. During the video portions of the presentation, there is poetic narration, from the first-person perspective – The Voice of Water, and spoken word “slam” poetry over a video montage of a Superfund wastewater treatment facility, which shows another aspect of how humans interact with water.

The intention is to communicate through these mediums a deeper understanding of the interconnection that all life on Earth has, and interdependence upon water for our existence.

The artists and a panel of leading experts including scientists, and advocates, will be available for a Q & A after the performance. Experts include:

Julia Butterfly Hill – Environmental Activist, joining us from California via Zoom.

Fergus P. Lea, P. E. – Environmental Engineer; Androscoggin River Watershed Council, Chair

Jeff Stern – Biologist, Environmental Planner, working with small watersheds, fish passages, and stream connectivity, author of Soul Like A River

Kirk Siegal – Executive Director and a founding member of the Mahoosuc Land Trust, land conservation attorney

Jay Milot – Caribou Springs LLC, watershed restoration specialist, fisheries biologist

C. J. May – Sustainability professional and resource presenter, specializing in recycling and environmental education
