Come see Jane Eyre at Portland Stage, running March 30 - April 25!

“When I read Williamson’s adaptation of Jane Eyre, it felt as though the book itself was coming to life. Using tools of the stage and a group of shape shifting actors to help us seamlessly glide through a complicated story, we follow Jane, a Victorian heroine, whose steadfast determination would allow her to navigate our modern age. “ – Anita Stewart, Artistic Director Portland Stage.

This romantic thriller begins as Jane Eyre is hired to work as a governess for Adèle Varens, a young French girl at Thornfield Hall. She eventually meets and befriends her absentee employer, Mr. Rochester, and begins noticing odd happenings throughout the estate: mysterious laughing, fires, and more! As she comes to realize that everything (even a ghost) isn’t quite what it seems, she sees Mr. Rochester for who he truly is, and must decide if she can live with the consequences. Charlotte Brontë’s beloved coming of age novel is adapted beautifully by Elizabeth Williamson, who takes us back and forth in time to deftly revisit Jane’s mysterious past. Relive the secrets and scares in a satisfying love story about old flames that never die.
