Make Your Own Shavehorse – October 26 and November 2
- Date: October 26, 2019
- Time: 09:00 AM - 04:00 PM
- Location: Tear Cap Workshops, Hiram
Build a traditional shave horse with locally sourced wood! Students will shape the legs from green wood, hew and shape the seat; then assemble the working pieces.
The shave horse is a traditional tool that utilizes one’s legs to clamp the piece of wood while shaping it. It allows for rapid changes in position that is helpful in making smaller pieces, such as parts for a chair, including legs, spindles, also spoons, tool handles, and many other projects.
By learning the principles to make a shave horse, participants will be able to move ahead using skills and techniques learned — and using the shave horse made in this class — to make chairs, tables, and tool handles and more!
Class size is limited to a maximum of 4 participants to allow everyone plenty of hands-on instruction. We need at least 2 participants to move ahead with the class.
This workshop will be held over 2 consecutive Saturdays: October 26 and November 2, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a break for lunch on both days. (Please bring your own bag lunch.) Additional shop time is also available so folks can work at their own pace.
