Maine Veterans’ Art Exhibition Celebration

On November 1, 2022, the Maine Arts Commission honored and celebrated veteran artists at the State Capitol Complex in Augusta.

In 2015, the Maine Legislature passed a provision declaring November 1 as Veterans in the Arts and Humanities Day. To honor the occasion, the Maine Arts Commission partnered with the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, The Peace Gallery, and Quilts of Valor to recognize Maine veterans and their creative work.

Celebrating Maine Veteran Artists

The event featured remarks from leaders in the arts and veterans’ services, the unveiling of the State of Maine Honorable Service plaque, and the presentation of a custom-made Quilt of Valor to each veteran artist participating in the exhibition.

Following the ceremony, guests took part in a walking tour of exhibitions at the Burton M. Cross Building and the Maine Arts Commission. The exhibition featured 36 works of art created by 20 Maine veteran artists.

2022 Exhibition

The 2022 Maine Veterans’ Art Exhibition was open to the public as a self-guided tour at the State Capitol Complex through December 30, 2022.

The exhibition and celebration were part of the Maine Arts Commission’s ongoing work to recognize the creative contributions of Maine veterans and create opportunities for veteran artists to share their work with the public.
